My name is Susan Catlett and I have been a Librarian in Virginia Beach for the past six years. In addition to serving as a Librarian, I sponsor Green Run Reads, the student book club. Before returning to my alma mater (yes, I am a librarian at the high school I graduated from many moons ago!), I was a Librarian with Portsmouth Public Schools for eleven years at both the high school and elementary levels.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in history from Old Dominion University and my Master of Arts in history from the University of Alabama before earning my MLS from the University of Tennessee. I meant to become a history professor, but the siren call of the library swayed me to a different path that has been fulfilling and so very satisfying.  My enthusiasm and respect for librarianship only continues to grow as I interact with my colleagues throughout the region, state and beyond through conferences, professional networks, and even informal conversations. I was honored to be chosen as the VAASL York Regional Director two years ago and I am thoroughly enjoying my expanded role in our state school library organization.

Currently, I volunteer as a GoodReads Librarian and serve as a School Library Journal book reviewer. I am married to my college sweetheart, have one adult son, five furry children, and adore reading YA books late at night. I am always looking for new books to review, just ask!
